Abstract
In Nigeria, waste management practices are often inadequate, with many dumpsites lacking proper regulation and management The aim of this study is to assess the extent of heavy metal pollution in dumpsite areas in Keffi Local Government, Nasarawa State, Nigeria, dumpsite soils in Keffi metropolis have accumulated heavy metals to levels that raise concern for both environmental sustainability and public health.
Chapter One
The assessment of heavy metal pollution in dumpsite areas in Keffi Local Government, Nasarawa State, Nigeria, is a critical environmental concern. The increasing population and urbanization in Keffi have led to a significant rise in waste generation, with many dumpsites lacking proper management and regulation (Agunwamba, 2003). The improper disposal of waste in these dumpsites can lead to the release of heavy metals into the environment, posing risks to human health and the ecosystem (Jarup, 2003).
