DEVELOPMENT OF A WEB-BASED MEDICAL AND APPOINTMENT SCHEDULING SYSTEM
Abstract
The Web-Based Medical And Appointment Scheduling System is a web-based application designed to facilitate the scheduling of medical appointments between patients and healthcare providers. The system provides a convenient, efficient, and user-friendly platform for patients to book appointments online, reducing wait times and improving the overall healthcare experience. The system consists of five modules: Patient Module, Doctor Module, Appointment Module, Payment Module, and Reporting Module. The system was developed using a combination of technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Node.js, Express, and MongoDB.
Chapter One
Patients’ satisfaction with appointment booking is influenced by their ability to book at the right time with the right health service providers (Wang & Gupta, 2023). One area where this is particularly important is in the scheduling and coordination of appointments. Traditional methods of appointment scheduling, such as phone calls or in-person visits, can be time-consuming and prone to errors (Smith & Jones, 2023). The development of web-based appointment scheduling systems has emerged as a solution to these challenges, providing a more streamlined and convenient way for both service providers and clients to manage their schedules (Johnson, 2024). The Internet has recently emerged as another means to make appointments. Web-based medical and appointment scheduling has been a popular research topic. Several studies conducted satisfaction surveys and found that Web-based medical and appointment scheduling is an extremely important feature, and most patients would use the service again (Tang et al., 2023). The rapid growth of the internet and the widespread adoption of digital technologies have transformed the way people access and utilize services (Lee & Kim, 2023). Businesses and organizations across various sectors, including healthcare, education, and professional services, have recognized the benefits of implementing web-based appointment scheduling systems. These systems allow clients to conveniently book, reschedule, or cancel appointments online, while also providing service providers with a centralized platform to manage their schedules and client information (Wilson & Nguyen, 2024). Traditionally, hospital appointments have been made with manual schedulers over the telephone or in person. These methods are based on verbal communications with real people and allow for maximum flexibility in complicated situations (Zhang, Yu, & Yan, 2023). However, because these traditional methods require the intervention of schedulers, the ability to get a timely appointment is not only limited by the availability of appointment slots, but also by the manual schedulers and phone lines (Jones, Menon-Johansson, Waters, & Sullivan, 2024). Patients’ satisfaction with appointment booking is influenced by their ability to book at the right time with the right health service providers (Wang & Gupta, 2023).
